‘The Odyssey’ Becomes Highest-Grossing R-Rated Film Worldwide

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, has set a new box-office record by becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history. The epic has earned around $1.352 billion worldwide, including approximately $516 million in the US and Canada and more than $800 million internationally. With this milestone, the film has surpassed Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed around $1.338 billion globally.

Released on July 17, The Odyssey made an impressive $123 million on its opening day in North America and crossed the $1 billion mark within weeks. The film, based on Homer’s legendary epic poem, is currently the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With its theatrical run still underway, the film is reportedly on track to potentially cross the $1.5 billion mark. Ryan Reynolds also congratulated Nolan and the film’s cast and crew on breaking the Deadpool & Wolverine record.
