Indian athletes continue to make waves at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, delivering stellar performances across athletics, para-athletics, and boxing on the seventh day of the event to lift India’s total medal count to 15, which includes 3 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
In a historic milestone for para-sports, para-athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinched the gold medal in the men’s 100m T47 event with a record-shattering timing of 10.71 seconds, setting a new Games record and becoming the first Indian male athlete to win a gold in a Commonwealth Games para-track event. His compatriot, Mohammed Basil, crossed the finish line in 10.83 seconds to secure the silver, completing a remarkable one-two finish for India.
Meanwhile, star long jumper Murali Sreshankar added another prestigious feather to his cap by bagging the silver medal with an impressive best jump of 8.09 meters. This marks Sreshankar’s second consecutive silver at the Commonwealth Games, following his podium finish at Birmingham 2022, in a fiercely contested final where Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle took gold with 8.15 meters and Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie earned bronze. In javelin throw, Rohit Yadav (78.37m) and Yashvir Singh (78.36m) also successfully advanced to the finals, finishing 9th and 10th respectively.
The nation’s boxing contingent has continued its phenomenal run, with all 10 Indian boxers advancing to the semi-finals and ensuring at least a bronze medal each, outperforming the previous edition’s benchmark. This builds on the momentum from recent impressive quarter-final victories by women boxers like Sakshi Chaudhary (51 kg) and Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), alongside men boxers Sachin Siwach (60 kg), Ankush Yadav (80 kg), and heavyweight contender Narender (90+ kg). With dominant performances across multiple disciplines, the Indian contingent’s morale remains sky-high as the games progress.
