Karnataka Leadership Buzz: Siddaramaiah’s Breakfast Meet Sparks Resignation Speculation

Amid intensifying speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to host a high-profile breakfast meeting with his cabinet colleagues on Thursday morning at his residence. The meeting is being viewed as politically significant, with reports suggesting that he may announce his resignation within the next one or two days. According to sources, the potential move is linked to a possible leadership transition that could pave the way for Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to take over as Chief Minister. It is being speculated that the Congress high command has offered Siddaramaiah a central organisational role along with a Rajya Sabha seat as part of a broader political realignment in the state.

The development comes after a series of high-level meetings in Delhi involving top Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary K. C. Venugopal, and senior leader Randeep Singh Surjewala. Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were also summoned to the national capital for discussions reportedly focused on organisational strategy and upcoming legislative council and Rajya Sabha elections. However, the Congress party has officially dismissed the leadership change reports as “speculation,” maintaining that the meetings were routine and focused on electoral planning.

Despite this, political uncertainty persists, with supporters of Shivakumar continuing to push for his elevation, citing an alleged power-sharing understanding during the 2023 assembly elections. As senior Congress leaders prepare to visit Bengaluru, including Venugopal and Surjewala, the political atmosphere in Karnataka remains tense, with the coming days expected to be crucial in determining the state’s leadership trajectory.
