Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Today Battle for the Crown Begins

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, marking a major milestone in the growth of women’s cricket worldwide. Scheduled to begin on June 12 in England, the tournament will be the largest Women’s T20 World Cup in history, featuring 12 teams for the first time and a total of 33 matches across seven venues.

Under the revised prize structure, the champions will receive a record USD 2.34 million (over ₹22 crore), while the runners-up will earn USD 1.17 million (around ₹11 crore). In addition, every participating team is guaranteed USD 247,500 (approximately ₹2 crore) as a participation fee. Teams eliminated in the semifinals will also receive substantial rewards, with each losing semifinalist set to earn around ₹6.56 crore.

The ICC has also introduced financial incentives during the group stage, with teams receiving a bonus of approximately ₹29 lakh for every match they win. The move reflects the governing body’s commitment to enhancing the stature and competitiveness of women’s cricket on the global stage. The 2026 edition will see an expanded format, with 12 teams divided into two groups of six. Each team will play the other five sides in its group once, with the top two teams from each group advancing directly to the semifinals. A total of 33 matches will be played during the tournament.

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will enter the competition aiming to secure their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title and are considered among the strongest contenders. India have been placed in Group 1 alongside Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Group 2 comprises hosts England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Ireland. With record prize money, an expanded format, and growing global interest, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to become a landmark event for women’s cricket.
