President Droupadi Murmu is set to embark on a historic six-day diplomatic tour from July 19 to July 25, 2026, covering Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania. This significant visit marks the first-ever bilateral trip by an Indian President to Moldova and North Macedonia, while her visit to Romania serves as the first such high-level engagement in over three decades, with the last visit occurring in 1994. The tour underscores India’s evolving “Europe policy,” which aims to deepen economic, strategic, and political partnerships with both major and emerging European nations.
The itinerary begins on July 20 in Moldova, followed by a visit to North Macedonia from July 21-22, and concludes with a stay in Romania from July 23-25. During these visits, President Murmu will engage in high-level talks with her counterparts, address national parliaments, and participate in various business forums. The core agenda revolves around the “3Ts”—Trade, Technology, and Tourism—with a specific focus on expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and digital innovation.
This diplomatic mission is strategically timed following the conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations in January 2026. By engaging with nations that are either EU members or candidates for accession, India aims to double its bilateral trade within the next three years. Additionally, the tour highlights strong people-to-people ties, particularly in Romania and Moldova, where a significant number of Indian students and professionals reside. Romania’s historical role as a vital logistics hub and its assistance during past evacuation efforts further cement its status as a key partner in India’s connectivity goals via the Black Sea and the Middle Corridor.
