TN CM Stalin Participates in Pongal, Announces Statewide ‘Thirukkural Week’ to Promote Tamil Culture

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin took part in the Pongal celebrations in Chennai and distributed kitchen kits to attendees. On the same day, he announced the observance of ‘Thirukkural Week’ across the state in January, aimed at promoting Tamil language, literature, and culture. The celebrations mark the silver jubilee of the Statue of Knowledge installed by Muthamil Arignar at Kanyakumari. Under this initiative, all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu will host Thirukkural recitations, art exhibitions, music performances, seminars, quizzes, teacher conferences and other cultural events.

In addition, the CM inaugurated the 49th Chennai Book Fair at Nandanam’s YMCA Grounds, praising it as a long-standing festival of knowledge. He also highlighted that interest from a ₹1 crore donation by former CM Kalaignar is being used to honor eminent writers with the Kalaignar Porcizi Award, which carries a prize of ₹1 lakh each. Emphasizing the importance of knowledge, CM Stalin said the Tamil community should be recognized globally as a knowledge-driven society.
