Chandigarh on High Alert Ahead of PM Modi’s July 17 Visit; 1,200 Police Personnel Deployed

Chandigarh has been placed on high alert ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on July 17, with the Special Protection Group (SPG) taking charge of security arrangements. Around 1,200 Chandigarh Police personnel, along with CRPF, RAF, ITBP, and other paramilitary forces, will be deployed across key locations, including Punjab Engineering College (PEC), PGIMER, the airport, major intersections, and other sensitive areas. SPG teams have conducted detailed security inspections, while a multi-agency mock drill simulating a terrorist attack was held at Chandigarh International Airport to assess emergency response and inter-agency coordination.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Advanced Maternal & Child Care Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at PGIMER, each equipped with 300 beds, and lay the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block. The healthcare projects, developed at a cost of approximately ₹1,250 crore, are expected to significantly strengthen advanced medical infrastructure in the region. Authorities will soon issue a detailed traffic advisory, urging commuters to follow diversions and cooperate with security personnel during the VVIP movement.
