PM Modi Begins Two-Day Odisha and West Bengal Visit; Releases PM-Kisan Installment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a two-day visit to Odisha and West Bengal, during which he will participate in several key events, inaugurate major development projects, and release the latest installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme benefiting millions of farmers across the country. The Prime Minister’s tour begins in Odisha, where he will visit Mayurbhanj and offer prayers at the sacred Santhali Jaher and Ho Jaher groves. President Droupadi Murmu is also expected to join him during the visit. The event coincides with celebrations marking two years of the Odisha government. President Murmu had arrived in Odisha a day earlier, though adverse weather conditions briefly affected her travel plans.

A major highlight of the visit is the release of the 23rd installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Prime Minister Modi will transfer over ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers nationwide, providing significant financial support to the agricultural community. During his Odisha and West Bengal engagements, the Prime Minister will also launch and inaugurate several agriculture-focused initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Agri Stack under the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Natural Farming Mission, and the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.

Later on Saturday, Modi will travel to West Bengal to participate in the state’s observance of “Paschim Banga Diwas” in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district. He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple development projects spanning railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries, and animal husbandry, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and boosting economic growth across the state. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the modernized fisheries harbour at Fraserganj in South 24 Parganas and a newly built fish market in Sainthia, Birbhum. Additionally, railway projects worth nearly ₹590 crore will either be launched or dedicated to the nation during the visit.

On Sunday, Modi will attend the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kolkata, where he is scheduled to address participants and promote the global message of health and wellness through yoga. Ahead of his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that June 20 holds special significance as West Bengal celebrates Paschim Banga Diwas. In a message posted on social media, he highlighted Tarakeswar’s historical importance and its association with Syama Prasad Mookerjee, emphasizing the region’s cultural heritage and the government’s commitment to development in the state. The two-day tour underscores the government’s focus on agricultural welfare, infrastructure development, and cultural engagement, while bringing major benefits to farmers and communities across Odisha and West Bengal.
