A major infrastructure push is underway in central India as work has begun on the expansion of National Highway-30 into a four-lane corridor from Jabalpur to Mandla and Chilpi. The approximately 160-kilometre stretch is being upgraded through a Detailed Project Report (DPR) currently under preparation, marking a significant step toward improving regional connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The project forms a crucial segment of the larger Prayagraj–Jabalpur–Raipur highway network and is being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Once upgraded, the four-lane highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve traffic flow, and enhance overall road safety. The project also includes the identification and permanent rectification of accident-prone “black spots” along the corridor.
Since the corridor passes near ecologically sensitive regions, including the Kanha Tiger Reserve, special emphasis is being placed on wildlife protection. The project will include animal underpasses and dedicated wildlife crossings to ensure safe movement of fauna across the highway. Additional signage and safety systems will also be installed in forest zones to reduce human-wildlife conflict and accidents. The upgraded highway is expected to significantly enhance trade and logistics between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh by improving connectivity to agricultural markets, industrial hubs, and freight corridors. Faster and safer transport will benefit supply chains and regional commerce.
Tourism is also likely to receive a strong boost, with improved access to attractions such as Bhedaghat, Dhuandhar Falls, Madan Mahal, and Kanha Tiger Reserve. The project is expected to stimulate growth in hospitality, transport, and local businesses, generating new employment opportunities across the region. According to officials, the NH-30 upgrade is not just a road-widening exercise but a long-term infrastructure initiative aimed at building a safer, more efficient, and environmentally balanced transport corridor for future needs. The DPR is expected to be completed by March 2027.
