In the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, the Sialdah Court on Saturday convicted the accused, Sanjay Roy. Following the court’s decision, Roy’s mother, Malti Roy, responded, expressing her understanding of the pain the victim’s family must feel.
Malti Roy said, “I have three daughters, and I can understand the pain of the victim’s parents. He deserves to be punished. If the court decides on the death penalty, I will accept it.”
Sanjay’s sister, Sabita, also reacted to the verdict, saying, “What my brother did is unimaginable and horrifying. It breaks my heart to say this, but if he is guilty, he deserves the harshest punishment. The victim was a woman and a doctor, just like me.” She further added, “I believe he couldn’t have done this alone, they say he was under the influence of alcohol.”
It is noteworthy that during the trial, neither Malti nor Sabita visited Sanjay while he was in custody.
Sabita shared her experience after Sanjay’s arrest, saying, “Since the day my brother was arrested, I haven’t stepped out of the house. People in my neighborhood are speaking badly about our family. I used to visit a local temple every Saturday, but I have stopped going now.” She also mentioned that her in-laws had said many hurtful things to her on the day of Roy’s arrest.
