Akshay Kumar to Play Father-in-Law Rajesh Khanna in RD Burman Biopic? Farhan Akhtar Takes the Lead

Bollywood could soon witness a fascinating real-life connection on the big screen. According to media reports, Akshay Kumar is set to portray his late father-in-law and legendary superstar Rajesh Khanna in director Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming biopic on iconic music composer RD Burman. Akshay is reportedly expected to make an extended cameo in the film. The biopic will feature Farhan Akhtar as Rahul Dev Burman, popularly known as Pancham Da. Reports suggest that the makers want to recreate the celebrated creative partnership between RD Burman and Rajesh Khanna, who together delivered several memorable songs during Hindi cinema’s golden era.

Akshay Kumar has reportedly allotted around 10 days for the shoot and is said to be excited about portraying Rajesh Khanna, whom he greatly admired. The casting also carries a unique personal connection, as Rajesh Khanna was the father of Akshay’s wife, Twinkle Khanna. The project is reportedly scheduled to go on floors in October 2026, with Neeraj Pandey directing. Farhan Akhtar will not only play the lead but is also associated with the production through Excel Entertainment, alongside Ritesh Sidhwani. Since the film will trace RD Burman’s life and musical journey, several prominent personalities from his era are expected to feature as characters in the story. More casting announcements are therefore likely as the project moves closer to production.
