Delhi Govt Changes Office Timings to Save Fuel, Launches 90-Day Public Campaign

Rekha Gupta has announced major changes in government office timings as part of a fuel-saving initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve petrol and diesel. Under the new schedule, Delhi government offices will function from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, while Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices will operate from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The Delhi government has also launched a 90-day public awareness campaign titled “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” aimed at reducing fuel consumption, promoting public transport, and easing pressure on foreign exchange reserves amid global economic uncertainty.

Speaking about the initiative, Rekha Gupta said the government wants to develop the national capital as a model city for sustainable and responsible energy usage. She also announced a one-year restriction on foreign travel for ministers and government employees as part of cost-cutting and fuel-saving measures. To reduce traffic congestion and fuel usage, different office timings have been assigned to various government institutions. Central government offices in Delhi will function from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, while state and civic body offices will follow staggered timings.

The government has also introduced energy-saving measures inside offices. Air conditioners will be maintained between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, and sensor-based lighting systems will be installed to automatically switch off lights in empty rooms. As part of the campaign, citizens will be encouraged to use public transport more frequently, avoid unnecessary travel and expenses, and support indigenous products. The Chief Minister also announced a special “Metro Monday” initiative under which ministers, senior officials, and government employees will prioritize metro travel every Monday. Additionally, the government has appealed to citizens to observe a weekly “No Vehicle Day” to reduce dependence on private vehicles. Special drives promoting carpooling and shared transportation will also be conducted across the city.
