India Summons Bangladesh Envoy Over Threats to High Commission and Anti-India Rhetoric

India called Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in New Delhi, Muhammad Riaz Hamidullah, to express strong protest over growing security concerns in Bangladesh. These concerns include threats to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and anti-India statements made by some Bangladeshi political leaders. The Ministry of External Affairs said India clearly told the High Commissioner that it is worried about the worsening security situation.

It highlighted the role of extremist groups that have openly talked about creating trouble around the Indian Mission in Dhaka. India also rejected what it called false claims being spread by these groups about recent events in Bangladesh. The diplomatic protest came after comments by Hasnat Abdullah, a student leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP). He claimed that Bangladesh would support forces against India and help separate India’s northeastern states, known as the “Seven Sisters,” from the rest of the country.

India strongly denied these remarks and called them baseless and provocative. India also said it was disappointed that Bangladesh’s interim government has not properly investigated recent incidents or shared clear evidence with India. Stressing its close ties with the people of Bangladesh since the 1971 Liberation War, India said it supports peace, stability, and free and fair elections, and expects Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all diplomatic missions.
