Jharkhand’s vast mineral reserves have once again drawn global attention, with American companies expressing strong interest in exploring, mining, and processing critical minerals in the state. A high-level meeting was held in Ranchi between Jharkhand Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and a US delegation led by Consul General Kelly J. Diaz, where detailed discussions were held on investment opportunities and future collaboration in the mineral sector.
During the meeting, the US delegation was briefed about Jharkhand’s rich mineral landscape, which already includes large reserves of coal, iron ore, copper, bauxite, gold, and limestone. Officials highlighted that the state has made significant progress in mining and processing these traditional resources, and is now focusing on strategically important critical minerals that are in high global demand.
The state government formally invited major US mining companies to invest in Jharkhand and adopt advanced technologies for exploration and processing. It was also noted that US mining group USISPA has shown interest in participating in upcoming mineral block auction processes, signaling deeper international engagement in the sector. Jharkhand’s mineral potential was showcased in detail, with officials pointing to confirmed and potential reserves of lithium in Giridih and Koderma—considered crucial for electric vehicle battery production.
The Palamu and Latehar regions were highlighted as major graphite belts, while Lohardaga and Gumla have confirmed deposits of bauxite along with minerals such as titanium, gallium, and vanadium. The Singhbhum region was also identified as a key emerging hub for critical minerals, with deposits and prospects of copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, and rare earth elements. Preliminary surveys in West Singhbhum have also indicated the presence of nickel, cobalt, and chromite.
Officials emphasized that out of 24 globally identified critical minerals, nearly 20 are found in Jharkhand, making the state a strategically important mining destination. With increasing international interest, particularly from the United States, Jharkhand is positioning itself as a future global mining hub, expected to boost both employment opportunities and state revenue significantly.
