Robotic Tech to Produce 30,000 Artillery Shells Under Atmanirbhar Bharat

In a major step towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities, artillery shells for the Indian Army will now be manufactured using advanced robotic technology under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. Balu Forge Industries Limited has secured a contract to supply 30,000 indigenous 152mm artillery shells, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push for self-reliance in defence production. The ammunition will be produced at the company’s new greenfield facility in Belagavi, Karnataka, which features a fully automated, unmanned production line. The system relies on cutting-edge robotics to ensure high precision, faster production, and minimal human intervention, significantly improving efficiency and reducing the scope of errors.

According to the company, the initial order of 30,000 shells is only the beginning, with plans to scale up production to over 100,000 shells in the future. This expansion aims to ensure a steady and reliable supply of high-capacity ammunition for the Indian Army, particularly for deployment along sensitive western and northern borders. Balu Forge Industries also holds NATO certification, reflecting its adherence to global quality and manufacturing standards, which enables it to supply defence equipment internationally. The company stated that this contract represents a turning point in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and further strengthens the vision of a self-reliant and technologically advanced military industrial base.
