The Indian Army and the Indian Navy have signed a significant Memorandum of Association on Affiliation aimed at strengthening coordination, cooperation, and joint operational capability between the two forces. The agreement was formally signed by Lieutenant General VPS Kaushik, Adjutant General of the Army, and Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Chief of Personnel of the Navy. Senior officials, including Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth and Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, were also present during the signing ceremony.
Officials stated that in today’s security environment, national defence is no longer limited to land borders alone, but also extends to maritime routes and economic interests. While the Army is responsible for safeguarding land borders, the Navy plays a crucial role in securing sea lanes and protecting maritime trade routes. The collaboration reflects the growing importance of multi-domain warfare, where future conflicts are expected to involve coordinated operations across land, sea, air, and cyberspace. The agreement is designed to enhance interoperability and joint readiness between the two services.
Under this framework, affiliated Army and Navy units will develop closer operational ties, including exchange programs, joint training, and combined exercises. Personnel from both forces will gain better understanding of each other’s operational procedures and strengths. Officials also highlighted that the agreement builds on lessons from recent joint operations, including Operation Sindoor, where coordinated efforts of the armed forces led to significant success. The initiative aligns with India’s broader defence strategy of greater integration and jointness among the armed forces, aiming to prepare the military for future multi-domain challenges.
