India is set to host the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on May 14 and 15, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during its weekly press briefing, shared the complete schedule of the high-level diplomatic gathering and highlighted key issues expected to dominate discussions. According to the MEA, the meeting will begin on Thursday, May 14, with the arrival of foreign ministers at 10 AM, followed by the first official session at 10:30 AM. At 1 PM, all participating ministers are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office, referred to as “Seva Teerth.” A second session will take place at 3:10 PM, while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host an official dinner in the evening. The summit will conclude on May 15 with a third session beginning at 10 AM.
The MEA stated that the BRICS meeting will focus on major global and regional developments, including reforms in global governance systems and the future expansion of the BRICS grouping. Officials clarified that whether a joint statement is issued at the end of the summit will depend on the consensus achieved among member nations. The issue of BRICS expansion is also expected to be a major talking point following the inclusion of several new countries in recent months. India, which is chairing the meeting, said decisions regarding representation and participation would be taken individually by member nations, and further details would be shared once delegations arrive in New Delhi.
During the briefing, the MEA also provided updates on Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming five-nation tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Discussions during the visit are expected to focus on energy security, trade, investment, and the welfare of the Indian diaspora in those countries. On regional developments, the ministry confirmed that 11 Indian ships have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz, while 13 more are yet to return. The government also stated that talks are ongoing with the United States and Iran regarding sanctions-related waivers linked to the Chabahar Port project. India further reiterated its support for Mauritius in the Chagos Islands sovereignty dispute and said issues related to suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants remain part of bilateral discussions with Dhaka. The MEA also confirmed that Nepal has invited Dr. Jaishankar for an official visit, with dates to be finalized later.
