Amid the West Asia crisis, PM Modi to visit Europe and the UAE on May 15

Amid rising global energy concerns triggered by tensions between Iran and United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a six-day diplomatic tour of Europe and the United Arab Emirates from May 15 to 20. The visit is expected to focus heavily on energy cooperation, trade expansion, and strengthening India’s strategic ties with key global partners. The Prime Minister will begin his tour in the UAE, where he is scheduled to meet President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Discussions are likely to center around energy security, regional stability, and investment opportunities. The UAE remains one of India’s most important energy partners and is also the seventh-largest source of foreign investment into India. More than 4.5 million Indians currently reside in the Gulf nation, making bilateral ties even more significant.

Following the UAE visit, PM Modi will travel to the Netherlands for an official visit until May 17. During the visit, he is expected to hold talks with Dutch leaders on cooperation in defense, green hydrogen, semiconductors, innovation, and sustainable technologies. This marks Modi’s second visit to the Netherlands as Prime Minister. The third leg of the tour will take him to Sweden, where he will attend meetings at the invitation of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg from May 17 to 18. Discussions are expected to focus on emerging technologies, startups, climate action, and economic partnerships.

PM Modi will then visit Norway to participate in the India-Nordic Summit. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway since 1983, highlighting India’s growing engagement with Nordic countries on issues such as clean energy, innovation, and sustainable development. In the final phase of the tour, the Prime Minister will travel to Italy, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Talks are expected to cover defense cooperation, supply chains, artificial intelligence, green transition, and strategic investments.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit aims to deepen cooperation in critical sectors including defense, security, semiconductors, green hydrogen, water management, AI, space, climate change, and advanced technologies. The multi-nation tour is also expected to strengthen economic and cultural partnerships while enhancing India’s global diplomatic outreach amid evolving geopolitical and energy challenges.
