Delhi is set for major traffic restrictions as preparations intensify for the 18th BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled at Bharat Mandapam on September 12–13. A motorcade rehearsal from 3 PM to 8 PM today is expected to affect traffic across several key corridors, with Delhi Traffic Police putting diversion measures in place at 22 points covering more than 35 routes.
Commuters travelling through Central Delhi, New Delhi, India Gate, Connaught Place, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, Dhaula Kuan and Bharat Mandapam have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time. Key roads likely to experience restrictions or diversions include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramania Bharati Marg, Mathura Road, Lodhi Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road and Tolstoy Marg.
Airport & Railway Passengers Need Extra Time
Travellers heading to Delhi Airport or major railway stations should leave well in advance, as VIP movement could lead to temporary traffic stoppages. Commuters from Gurugram and South Delhi may also face delays around the NH-48, Dhaula Kuan, Mahipalpur and airport corridors. Delhi Police has advised passengers to prefer the Metro wherever possible to avoid road congestion.
The area around Bharat Mandapam and Bhairon Marg will remain a controlled security zone, with access restricted for unauthorised vehicles. People visiting nearby areas are advised to use alternative routes and avoid unnecessary travel through the restricted corridors. With the BRICS Summit just days away, Delhi is preparing for heightened security and VIP movement. For commuters, the message is simple—check your route before leaving, avoid restricted roads, use public transport where possible and keep extra time in hand.
