Security forces carried out a joint mock drill in Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas as preparations intensify for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3. The exercise was conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) to assess preparedness and response capabilities in case of a terror attack during the pilgrimage. The drill simulated a hostage situation in which pilgrims could be taken captive during an attack. Security personnel demonstrated coordinated strategies to neutralize terrorists, safely evacuate hostages, and secure the entire area, highlighting rapid response and inter-agency coordination.
Officials stated that the primary objective of the exercise was to test readiness for any potential security threat and ensure swift action under emergency conditions. The Bhagwati Nagar base camp, a key transit point for pilgrims, is being prepared with upgraded facilities including room repairs, electrical work, and painting ahead of its formal handover to the tourism department. The annual pilgrimage will commence on July 3, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha scheduled to flag off the first batch of devotees from Jammu on July 2. Security agencies remain on high alert, finalizing arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth conduct of the yatra.
