In a move aimed at addressing ongoing supply pressures and elevated crude oil prices, seven key OPEC+ member countries have agreed to increase oil production by 188,000 barrels per day (BPD) starting in July. The decision comes after a similar production hike was approved for June, continuing a gradual easing of voluntary output cuts introduced earlier. The announcement followed a virtual meeting involving Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman.
These countries collectively decided to adjust production levels as part of the voluntary cuts initially implemented in April 2023, signaling a cautious shift toward restoring supply in the global oil market. According to OPEC, the adjustment reflects a phased approach to unwinding earlier production cuts, with the flexibility to partially or fully reverse the changes depending on evolving market conditions. The move highlights the group’s attempt to balance market stability with fluctuating global demand and price dynamics.
