Smriti Mandhana is on the verge of scoring a historic 5,000 runs in T20 Internationals

India’s women’s cricket team is set to begin a three-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe on October 16, marking a new chapter in Indian women’s cricket. Smriti Mandhana will take charge as India’s full-time captain for the first time, with the series offering her a chance to achieve a historic milestone. Mandhana is just 133 runs away from becoming the first player in the history of men’s and women’s T20 International cricket to score 5,000 runs. She has accumulated 4,867 runs in 179 T20I matches, including two centuries and 37 half-centuries.

With three matches in the series, she has an opportunity to create history. The series is also historic because it marks the first-ever bilateral series between the women’s teams of India and Zimbabwe. Following the T20I matches, both sides will compete in a three-match ODI series. All eyes will be on Mandhana as she looks to combine her new leadership role with a record-breaking performance.
