The Indian Air Force has taken a major step to strengthen the security of its airbases and ground defence capabilities. The Indian Air Force Ground Defence College was inaugurated on Monday at Air Force Station Avadi, with Air Marshal S. Shivakumar, VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Administration, formally opening the new facility. The inauguration was followed by the launch of the college’s first Ground Combat Course, aimed at providing specialised training to IAF personnel in airbase security and ground defence.
The initiative is focused on preparing personnel to counter ground-based threats and strengthen the overall security of critical air installations. Representatives from Headquarters Maintenance Command and Training Command, along with officers from the defence forces and civil security agencies, attended the inauguration. The new college is expected to serve as a dedicated centre for developing specialised skills, operational readiness and expertise in ground security operations.
