Hero MotoCorp Set to Launch India’s First 100% Ethanol-Powered Motorcycle

Hero MotoCorp is preparing to make history in India’s automotive sector with the launch of the country’s first motorcycle capable of running entirely on 100% ethanol fuel. The highly anticipated unveiling is scheduled for June 3 and is expected to mark a major milestone in India’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions. Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri are set to attend the launch event, highlighting the significance of the development. Unlike existing flex-fuel motorcycles in India, which operate on a blend of petrol and ethanol ranging from E20 to E85, Hero’s upcoming model is reportedly designed to run exclusively on ethanol. If confirmed, it would become the first two-wheeler in the Indian market to achieve this capability, setting a new benchmark for alternative-fuel vehicles.

The launch aligns closely with the Indian government’s push to expand ethanol usage and reduce dependence on imported crude oil. Through its ethanol blending program, the government aims to lower carbon emissions, strengthen energy security, and create additional income opportunities for farmers by increasing demand for agricultural feedstocks such as sugarcane and corn. Hero MotoCorp had previously showcased its ethanol technology at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, where it unveiled a flex-fuel version of the Hero HF Deluxe. Developed at the company’s Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, that prototype was capable of operating on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85. The upcoming launch suggests that Hero has taken the technology a step further by developing a motorcycle engineered for pure ethanol operation.

Ethanol is considered a renewable and environmentally friendly fuel because it is produced from agricultural resources and generates lower emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. Experts believe that a successful rollout of a 100% ethanol-powered motorcycle could accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels in India and offer consumers a viable option alongside electric vehicles. As the automotive industry explores multiple pathways toward sustainable transportation, Hero MotoCorp’s latest innovation could play a key role in shaping the future of green mobility in India and opening a new chapter for ethanol-powered vehicles in the country.
