Karan Johar’s popular Student of the Year franchise is making its OTT debut with a darker twist. Titled Student of the Year: After Dark, the upcoming mystery thriller stars Shanaya Kapoor in a double role. The makers unveiled the first trailer on Tuesday, offering a glimpse into a world of secrets, betrayal, and dangerous competition. The 1-minute-50-second trailer follows Shanaya Kapoor as she investigates the mysterious death of her twin sister, Ayesha Malik, whose body is discovered in a frozen lake. Determined to uncover the truth, she enters St. Teresa Heritage School, where she encounters several suspicious individuals, including a jealous best friend, a rejected lover, a hostile roommate, and a seemingly perfect boyfriend.
As the investigation unfolds, she discovers a secret competition at the school where students are willing to cross dangerous boundaries to win. The trailer suggests that several past incidents linked to the competition have been deliberately covered up, raising questions about whether Ayesha’s death was an accident or murder. The series also features Sheeba Chaddha as the twins’ mother. Directed by Reema Maya and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta, Student of the Year: After Dark is scheduled to premiere on JioHotstar on November 13, 2026. With its suspense-filled storyline and Shanaya Kapoor’s dual performance, the series promises a dramatic departure from the franchise’s familiar campus romance and rivalry.
