Amit Shah to Launch Land Port Management System for Digitised and Secure Border Operations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday, a state-of-the-art digital platform aimed at transforming cargo processing and passenger movement across India’s land ports. The system is designed to bring end-to-end digital workflows on par with the operational efficiency seen at airports and seaports, ensuring faster, more transparent, and interoperable border management.

The LPMS has been introduced as part of the government’s broader push for “smart and safe” borders, leveraging modern technology to enhance national security and streamline cross-border trade. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the platform will integrate operations across all land ports into a unified digital ecosystem, enabling real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information between stakeholders.

The system will function as an open and neutral platform, facilitating seamless coordination among various agencies, including government departments and private operators. This integration is expected to reduce procedural delays, improve efficiency, and strengthen transparency in border-related processes. On the same occasion, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly developed accommodation facilities for stakeholders at the Dawki land port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur land port in Tripura.

These facilities aim to strengthen infrastructure support for personnel involved in border management and trade facilitation. The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for the development and management of land ports across the country. Currently, it operates 15 land ports along India’s international borders, playing a key role in promoting trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
