Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami calls for massive ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ campaign on August 15

Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, August 7: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged representatives of all Gram Panchayats and local bodies in the state to join the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign to make the upcoming Independence Day both memorable and impactful by linking it with environmental protection efforts. He has communicated this initiative through a letter addressed to village heads.

In his letter, Chief Minister Dhami highlighted that the state comprises 7,795 Gram Panchayats, 95 area Panchayats, and 13 district Panchayats. He emphasized the need for a well-structured plan to celebrate the national festival on August 15, 2024, in a way that is both memorable and significant. The campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” aims to promote environmental protection and address climate change by encouraging tree plantation at every panchayat level, transforming it into a community-driven initiative.

The Chief Minister suggested that trees should be planted at Amrit Sarovar, other water sources, panchayat offices, schools, playgrounds, or other notable public locations. To ensure the active participation of Panchayati Raj institutions and the public, an honorary nodal officer should be appointed at every Gram Panchayat level. This nodal officer could be the Pradhan or any other respected individual from the Panchayat, and village-level personnel should be designated to provide the necessary support.

Chief Minister Dhami also called on the general public to make meaningful contributions towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by incorporating this activity into their annual action plans.

Previously, on Wednesday, the tree plantation campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” was initiated across Rajasthan as part of the ‘Harialo Rajasthan’ initiative. Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar launched the Chief Minister’s Tree Plantation Mega Campaign, organized by the district administration at the Women’s Polytechnic College in Jodhpur. Minister Dilawar emphasized the importance of planting trees annually to promote health and sustainability, urging everyone to increase their tree-planting efforts to set a global example of proactive environmental stewardship.
