Tamil Nadu Voter List Shrinks by Over 74 Lakh After Special Revision

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has published the final electoral rolls for Tamil Nadu following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, leading to a significant drop in the number of registered voters. According to the updated rolls, the electorate has reduced from 6.41 crore to 5.67 crore voters.  The CEO clarified that updation of the rolls will continue until the announcement of elections, subject to due verification. Voters can check their names on the official website.

Within Chennai district, Shozhinganallur Assembly constituency remains the largest with 5,36,991 electors, while Harbour Assembly constituency has the lowest electorate at 1,16,896 voters. Among districts, Thiruvallur tops the list with 31,57,413 voters, followed by Chennai with 28,30,936 electors. Ariyalur district has the smallest electorate at 5,22,954 voters.

In December last year, the ECI had published the integrated draft electoral rolls after the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision. The draft roll saw the removal of over 97 lakh electors. Earlier, when the rolls were frozen in October, the total number of electors stood at 5.43 crore. The window for filing claims and objections opened on December 19 and remained active until January this year. The final publication marks the conclusion of the intensive revision process ahead of upcoming elections in the State.
