Strengthening Employment Generation Schemes: Harshvardhan Chauhan

Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan emphasized the need to strengthen employment generation schemes while presiding over the 242nd meeting of the Board of Directors of the Khadi and Village Industries Board, Himachal Pradesh. The meeting, held today, focused on enhancing opportunities for unemployed youth, artisans, and weavers to establish micro and small industrial units under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

Minister Chauhan praised the Board for successfully achieving the targets set for the year 2023-24 under PMEGP. He instructed that a review meeting be conducted involving all implementing agencies, including the Khadi and Village Industries Board, District Industries Center, and Khadi and Village Industries Commission, under the leadership of the Principal Secretary Industries. The aim of this review is to identify ways to create more employment opportunities for the youth in the state.

In addition to discussions on employment generation, the Board approved the payment of Rs. 89.09 lakh to 14 retired employees, settling pending retirement benefits dating back to 2020. Furthermore, the Board of Directors decided to offer a special 20% discount on Khadi products starting October 2nd, in celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Industries R.D. Nazeem, Chief Executive Officer of the Khadi and Village Industries Board, Prashant Sarkaik, and other senior officers of the Khadi Board
