Karnataka Govt Enforces Dress Code for Govt Employees, Action Warned for Violations

The Karnataka government has implemented a strict dress code for its government employees, warning of disciplinary action for non-compliance. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has issued a circular prohibiting the wearing of ripped jeans and sleeveless clothing in government offices, citing the need to maintain dignity and decorum in the workplace. According to the circular, the guidelines have been circulated to all department heads, district collectors, senior officials, the Chief Minister’s Office and district-level authorities.

The directive clearly outlines do’s and don’ts for employees while attending office. The government said the move follows complaints from the public and various organizations regarding inappropriate attire worn by some employees despite repeated instructions. The Karnataka State Government Employees Association has welcomed the decision. Its president, C.S. Shadakshari, said the attire of government employees should not cause embarrassment to others and that maintaining professionalism in offices is essential.
