Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Launches ₹90 Crore Development Projects

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and launched development projects worth nearly ₹90 crore in Lakhimpur, marking a major push for education, sports infrastructure, and women-led entrepreneurship in the region. The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of Madhabdev University’s new 55-bigha campus in Narayanpur, developed at a cost of ₹57 crore. The campus features modern academic blocks, residential facilities, and upgraded infrastructure. The Chief Minister also announced an additional ₹75 crore for the university’s future expansion.

Strengthening cultural and sports facilities, Sarma opened a ₹22 crore, 681-seat auditorium dedicated to arts and cultural events and virtually inaugurated the ₹11 crore Pichala Krira Santha Mini Stadium at Tatibahar to promote grassroots sports development. In a major boost to women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister ceremonially distributed ₹10,000 seed capital cheques to 30,881 women beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) scheme. With this distribution, over 25.8 lakh women entrepreneurs across 104 Assembly constituencies have now been supported under the initiative.

Officials described the projects as a significant milestone for Lakhimpur, stating that the combined focus on education, culture, sports, and women’s livelihoods will accelerate inclusive growth and strengthen local communities across Assam.
